Acne can be graded as mild, moderate or severe depending on severity

• Avoid extremes of temperature – saunas etc.
If you have mild acne you may try topical agents which are available over the counter at your pharmacy without a prescription.

Salicylic acid preparations which exfoliate follicles and remove excess sebum or oil (Neutrogena oil- free acne Wash)
Panozyl creams or gels to apply to affected area.
If the above are unsuccessful or your acne is more severe then make an appointment with a medical practitioner to discuss other options which require a prescription.
Topical antibiotics such as Dalacin T or Zineryt. Topical antibiotics are applied twice daily until acne is controlled.
Topical retinoids are often prescribed in conjunction with topical antibiotics. E.g. Isotrex, Retin –A or Differin.
The following options will be discussed with you at your consultation
Oral antibiotics such as tetracyclines, Doxycycline, lymecycline or minocyclines.
Occasionally in the case of females the contraceptive pill known as Dianette may be prescribed.
If your acne is severe, developing scarring or not responding to antibiotics then Roaccutane or oral isotretinoin may be advised.

Glycolic Peels are derived from sugar cane and works by loosening the glue-like attachments that occurs in acne, pigmentation, and skin ageing. Glycolic peels reduce fine lines and wrinkles, acne and acne scarring.
Usually approximately six treatments are recommended.
Prior to your peel your medical practitioner will advise a home care programme for 2 weeks before your peel. The home care programme contains lower percentages of glycolic acid in order to ensure that your skin is able to tolerate glycolic acids.
• Your skin is cleansed first
• The glycolic peel is then applied to your skin. You may experience a mild stinging sensation. The peel is left on your skin for adequate time to obtain good results. This will be determined by your medical practitioner
• Your skin may become red after the peel and there may be white frosting in some areas. Redness will subside in first few day, this is normal.
• It is vital that you wear sun protection factor on your skin after your peel. You should not expose your skin to the sun after your peel.
• Do not pick at peeling skin.
Consultation for Glycolic Peel €50, redeemable on your first treatment.
